Design Influences

The primary influences on my work come from shaker,
Japanese and Scandinavian design (with special homage
to James Krenov) along with the straightforward manner
of Minimalist sculpture and painting. Most pieces are made
with a combination of wood species chosen for the effects
of color and figure. Form and function are the main design
priorities along with a minimum of decorative details.

Background

                            My educational background is in

advertising design and painting with a

BFA in graphic arts from what is now

The University of the Arts in Philadelphia

and an MFA in painting from Tyler School

of Art at Temple University. My work in

wood began as a preparator for the

Institute of Contemporary Art at the

University of Pennsylvania building
shipping crates, Sculpture bases and installation pieces for
exhibitions. I continued in this medium by designing and
building an icosahedron shaped cabin in the Adirondack
Mountains of northern New York. After building my current home,
a hexagonal log house, I began working as a building and
remodeling contractor also making cabinets and furniture for
myself and clients. Examples of my work can be seen at the
Adirondack Craft Center in Lake Placid, New York
(http://www.adirondackcraftcenter.com).
